In episode #20 of The Care Home Show, Simon welcomes his guests Dr Chris Papadopoulos and Dr Sanjeev Kanoria.
Dr Chris Papadopoulos, Principle lecturer in Public Health and Social Robotics expert at the University of Bedfordshire.
Dr Sanjeev Kanoria, the Chairman of Advinia Health Care.
Chris and Sanjeev are currently working on a research project called 'CARESSES' whereby the goal is to design the first robots that can assist older people and adapt to the culture of the individual they are taking care of.
CARESSES is an international, multidisciplinary project whose goal is to design the first robots that can assist older people and adapt to the culture of the individual they are taking care of. The robots help the users in many ways including reminding them to take their medication, encouraging them to keep active, helping them keep in touch with family and friends. Each action will be performed with attention to the older person’s customs, cultural practices and individual preferences.
The project, which started on the 1st January 2017, is funded by the European Commission and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. It is coordinated by Professor Antonio Sgorbissa at the University of Genova and Professor Nak Young-Chong at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. The other study partners include Advinia Healthcare, University of Bedfordshire, Middlesex University, University of Orebro, Nagoya University, Chubu University and Softbank Robotics.

"My favourite parts of this episode are; learning more about how the AI within the robots are being designed to be socially and culturally aware, hearing how the CARESSES robots is complimentary to care delivered by humans and not in competition `and understanding how the robots AI has been designed to focus on resident well-being"
